Wintec’s embedded modem is based on a Silicon Labs ISO modem chipset. There is a long product history with this embedded modem at Wintec. Two different interfaces have been implemented for this product to meet various customer demands. One is a parallel mode interface where the data transactions between the host and the modem use an 8-bit data bus with a set of micro-controller control signals at the interface. The other uses an UART interface, where the embedded modem is operates in serial mode to handle data transfer with the host system.
Wintec is committed to long term support of embedded modems products. This includes maintaining long term product revisions, which allows communication and medical system customers the longevity of a product to pass FCC and FDA certifications. Wintec maintains two families of embedded modem products that span two generations of Silicon Labs modem chipsets.
Both generations of SLM embedded modems are in 2” x 1” DIP form factor and are often referred to as a DIP modems. There are 40 total number of pins in the DIP modem and each pin has a pin pitch of 0.1 inches.
Wintec also provides a 1.4” x 0.9” 24 pin small form factor solution. The smaller and more compact SL24xx Series modems support serial mode only. See SL Modem tab for more info.
