Why doesn't my ExpressCard SSD work with my ExpressCard adapter? (ExpressCard to PCMCIA, ExpressCard to desktop adapter, etc,.)
The ExpressCard slot in a laptop has two electrical interfaces; one half is PCI-express, and the other half is USB. According to the ExpressCard standard, all ExpressCard devices (such as the ExpressCard) can only utilize one electrical interface at a time, while the other half is not connected. The ExpressCard utilizes the faster PCI-express interface.

Most PCMCIA adapters and many desktop adapter cards have an ExpressCard slot that is only connected on the USB half of the connector and is unable to recognize the ExpressCard through the PCI-express interface.

To make sure that you buy the correct adapter that will work with the ExpressCard SSD, make sure that the adapter does not say "USB-only". The correct desktop adapters will also plug directly into your motherboard PCI-e slots (such as a video card).
