How do I install the USB Modem CX driver software for my computer running Windows 2000, XP, Vista, 7 or Mac OS 10.5/10.6?
This installation guide applies to FileMate USB Hard Modem part number MCMU931.

For Microsoft® Windows® 2000, XP, Vista or 7


Easy Installation -- Requires the user to attach the modem to the USB port and run the setup program according to which version of Windows you have.
  1. Insert the Driver Installation CD into the computer CD drive and plug the USB modem into an available USB port.
  2. Access the contents of the CD from My Computer and open the folder that matches your operating system.
  3. Open the "Setup.exe" file
    › If a window appears stating "Windows can't verify the publisher of this driver software" select the option "Install this driver software anyway."
  4. When the Device Driver Installation Wizard opens, click OK to continue.
  5. When the installation has completed, the Result will show as "Success." Your USB modem is now ready to use.
Alternative Installation Method -- Requires the user to attach the modem to the USB port and specify where the installation (INF) file is found.

The driver version for Windows 2000, XP and Vista is 2.0.17.50
The driver version for Windows 7 is 2.0.21.50.
  1. Insert the Driver Installation CD into the computer CD drive and plug the USB modem into an available USB port.
  2. The "Found New Hardware Wizard" will open. Select "No, not this time" and click the Next button to continue.
  3. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next
  4. Select 'Search for the best driver in these locations" and also select "Include this location in the search." Then click the Browse button.
  5. The "Browse for Folder" window will open. Expand the USB Modem Install CD and open the folder for your Operating system. Click OK.
  6. Click the Next button when the "Found New Hardware Wizard" opens.
    › If a window appears stating "Windows can't verify the publisher of this driver software" select the option "Install this driver software anyway."
  7. Click Finish to close the install wizard. Your USB Modem is now ready for use.


For Mac OS 10.5 or 10.6


Connect the modem to your computer
  1. Connect the USB Modem directly into a USB port on your Mac
  2. Connect one end of the included phone cable to the phone line connection on the USB Modem. Then plug the other end of the phone cable to a telephone wall jack.

Configure the modem
  1. Mac OS will automatically detect the modem when it is plugged into a USB port.
  2. When the "New Network Interface" window opens, select the "Network Preferences" button. › If the network interface does not automatically detect the modem, look on the Menu Bar and select "System Preferences" and then "Network" to access the network.
  3. From the Network Connections Services list, select USB Modem
    • If the modem does not appear in the list, click the "+" button near the bottom of the list to add a device.
      • Select USB Modem from the drop-down menu.
      • Enter a Service Name (ex. FileMate USB Modem) then click Create.
    • When the "Network window" opens, Click the Advanced button.
    • Click the "Modem" tab and select the following:
      • Vendor: Generic
      • Model: Universal (115k)
    • If you have DNA or Proxies information from your ISP, open those tabs and enter the information
    • Click OK to return to the main Network view.
    • Enter the telephone number and account information your Internet Service Provider (ISP) has provided.
    • Click Connect. Your USB Modem is now ready for use.
