FAQs Back to top
My microSD card doesn’t seem to operate correctly. Is my Wintec FIleMate microSDHC Class 10 Flash card compatible with my mobile device’s Android or Windows 7 OS?
We are aware that current generation mSDHC storage devices have demonstrated varying degrees of compatibility with current generation Android and Windows Phone 7 O/S mobile devices. There appears to be more of a compatibility factor issue when attempting to use Class 10 rated cards which are typically optimized for camera/video recorder sequential storage and speed use. Our Engineers are working towards a more stable solution to address user feedback with the newer generations of handheld devices using the Android 2.x+ O/S.

It should be noted that some users are not aware that, especially with WP7 devices, adding storage media is, according to the documentation of some devices, supposed to be mounted one-time and not removed as the additional storage capacity is now considered a permanent extension to the O/S environment. With the latest generation of device controllers and device drivers in these mobile O/S environments, there are factors which need further study to ensure both sides of the observed compatibility instability is properly resolved.

If you have already purchased a Class 10 mSDHC card, and are finding that you have some instability where the media needs reformatting, media seems to slow the device down, or causing O/S freezing, we have found that in some cases, reformatting the mSDHC card using FAT32 and 32KB sectors has provided an improved experience. In other cases, using a card that has been optimized for Class 4 or lower speed rating has also been successful in providing expected stable random access and saved file operation.|

Formatting instructions:

  • Insert the mSDHC card into a compatible “High Capacity” reader
  • Attempt to format the card using FAT32/32KB parameter settings
  • Device specific formatting may be necessary once inserted (check the documentation for your mobile device)
  • Finally, also check your mobile device manual to understand proper insert/removal procedure for external storage media
