FAQs Back to top
What Operating Systems are compatible with the USB CX Modem?
The USB CX Modem is compatible with the following operating systems:
Microsoft: 2000, XP, Vista, Win 7 32bit, Win 7 64bit
Windows Server 2008
Mac OS: 10.4/10.5, 10.6
I inserted the install disk and nothing happened, what should I do?
Due to the many individual personal computer configurations, it is possible that the install program will not "auto launch" upon inserting the CD driver disk. Using Windows Explorer, navigate manually through 'My Computer' to access the correct folder on install CD for your version of Windows. Double-click the 'Setup' file to start the manual install process.
I didn't receive an install CD, what should I do?
The driver package is also located on our website and is the same driver package that is on the install disk. You may be able to download the file to a USB storage drive from another computer you have access to use. If you are not able to access the internet and need an installation CD manually mailed to you, please call our Technical Support Rep at 408-856-0576.
Do I need to have an ISP in order to use this modem?
Yes, it is critical to have an internet service provider (ISP) in order to connect to the internet. Internet access is NOT automatically granted just because you have a active phone line. You will need a data account authorization to login via user name/password to that service which provides you internet access. Phone service and Internet service are provided via the same physical wire connection to your house but are different services altogether.
How do I dial out using my FileMate USB Modem?
If your FileMate USB modem is being used in a building with an internal phone network, such as an office building or a hotel, it may be required to dial a prefix number, such as 8 or 9 to connect to the phone company network outside of the building. Add a prefix number to the program that is using the modem to get the external line; the number should be followed by a pause (e.g. 550-662-1234). If this does not work, contact the phone network administrator for the correct dial-out phone number.
